start posting BTS videos etc… and make a facebook group. I think this will help. Once there are 1500 users it makes sense to post stuff every day, which keeps everyone interested! informing people of contests and workshops will also help, even just events and media contacts to get accreditation.

Check out Yongnuo products. Their RF-602 triggers, 2.4 GHz triggers, are even better than the old ebay triggers. They have an extensive line of flashes that have good power and manual functions. YN-468, YN-560, YN-460II.
